Plus que quelques noeuds à apprendre et j'aurais fait le tour de mon cours de frivolités chez Craftsy.
Cette semaine, je vous donne (roulements de tambour)...

Je suis certaine que Marilee Rockley s'amuse autant à trouver les noms de ses bijoux qu'à les inventer.

Je ne sais pas si je vais le monter sur une chaîne ou bien si je vais le coudre en état sur le devant de ma  robe violette.

J'ai appris "le truc des lacets de chaussures" (et oui c'est vraiment comme ça que Marilee appelle un noeud), à ajouter une perle à un picot (ce que j'appelle aussi la technique du trombone) pour la grosse perle du milieu, et à mieux serrer mes points.

Je progresse lentement mais surement.

Pour terminer voici quelques photos de Dame Christiane dans le tailleur que je lui avais fait en fin d'année dernière.

Elle le trouve très confortable pour faire le ménage et très assorti à ses gants mapa, mes 50 heures et plus de couture n'ont donc pas été infructueuses.

I have got a 40 (ish) jacket !

My starlet suit jacket completed (no mean feat), I had to strut about in it and flaunt my skills in every one's face. I'm so vain ! To my credit, I must say that I didn't explain to every and any one how I hand tailored the collar, nor, how I eased the sleeves in, etc. even though I really wanted to. But, I managed to keep myself nicely in check and just said to every one and any one "I did it myself !" in the most modest demure way I could manage, of course.
Every one did make the right "ooh!", and "aah!" (nb : noises made with the french accent), and prodded and poked my jacket as if to see if it was real. It was so rewarding in a base boastful way that I wanted to start on another jacket strait away to get even more compliments. Yes, vain, I know.

Does sewing turn any one else  into a praise seeking narcissist ? Is it just me ?

Here is the jacket in all its glory :

The skirt is made from the bursa style may 2012 magazine. It's the pencil one with the folds.
I know that a circle skirt would have been more appropriate to a vintage style suit, but I didn't have enough material left for it. So there it is a horizontally pleated pencil skirt (not to sure this is the right description for it).

My friend Elodie (picture on top), is doing her own nail art. Look at that ! :

 Sorry, I don't have a better picture, but it's a lovely shade off of pink with delicate silver flowers on it.

I have added to my list of the 1001 things to do the task of learning how to take better pictures.
It will be a slow learning process as it is with sewing, so, be patient with me, please !

And if you wandered, YES, I did go camping, with that suit, in the tiniest tent ever . have a look :

My pink blouse is showing in the most untidy way. My excuse is that it was early morning, I didn't get much sleep due to the cold that night (8°C degree in the wee hours of the morning), so, i gave myself the right to a little scruffiness.


On the lining front, that jacket is a mess. Of course, I purposefully forgot to mention this to any of my jacket admirers. I didn't know what went wrong at first, I cut everything as instructed (or so I thought ), but the lining didn't match the jacket and I had to gather it on the sides, like so :

More of that ugly lining !

After taking a closer look it seems that I cut the pieces of the lining in the bias rather than on the grain.
Could this tiny detail be the root of such a mess ?
Apparently so.

I might one day take the lining off the jacket and recut it on the grain, AND, reassemble it. But, I don't see this happening in the near futur as I'm a bit sick of jacket sewing for now.

The starlet suit jacket

Pour mettre en marche mon plan d'action : apprendre à coudre et coudre rétro, je me suis inscrite à un cours de chez Craftsy qui me semble pile poil convenir à mes prétentieuses aspirations.
Voili, voilà :

To start my journey in the art of sewing retro I have enrolled to a craftsy  course : TADA ! 

C'est une veste façon star de cinéma des années 40, et, avec plein de défis techniques intéressants pour une novice : des poches passepoilées, le col et revers formés avec de la toile tailleur (plutôt que de la viseline)...
Je vais en faire une dans des restes de tissus à deux balles pour moi, et s'y la chose est concluante, j'achèterai du vrai beau tissu cher pour faire une veste de star à Dame Christianne (ma maman).

There are a lot of techniques I'm eager to learn like the welt pockets and the hand tailoring method.
I will first try to make one for myself in a cheap leftover material from my stash, then if I get the hang of it, I'll buy some nice wool and make one for my mum.

Je ne suis pas une pro de la couture, et, je ne suis pas une pro de l'imprimante non plus.
Comme mon imprimante est un vieux coucou poussif, cela ne s'est pas fait sans mal. Sur les 56 pages à imprimer, j'en ai imprimé une trentaine deux fois et d'autres, pas imprimées du tout, à cause de bourrage de papier à répétition. Au bout de deux heures, je n'ai plus de papier ni d'encre dans mon imprimante mais, j'ai enfin, toutes les pages du patron !
Au bout de deux jours ( et de deux rouleaux de rubans adhésifs et de deux tubes de colles), les pièces de mon patron sont assemblées.
Ce ne me semble pas être un procédé très bon pour l'environnement et c'est une façon très chronophage d'aborder un patron. Même si j'aime les puzzles,  j'aurais bien aimé commencer à coudre un peu.
Ceci dit, j'ai commencé à visionner le cours de Gertie, et je pense que je vais apprendre quelques petits secrets de tailleurs. Je vais donc vite couper toutes ces pièces dans un vieux drap pour faire une toile !

As my printer is an old tired little thing, it suffered a lot in the long process of printing the pattern. And, I suffered a lot in the process of putting and gluing it all together.
I have been at it for 2 days, and I haven't yet started sewing. I've started to watch the craftsy course though, and it looks like i'm going to learn a lot of exiting things. I'm going to make a muslin from some old sheet first.

Et vous, comment avez-vous appris à coudre ? Sur le tas ? avec des bouquins ? Ou avez-vous la chance de compter une couturière parmi vos proches ?
And  how did you learn to sew ? by trials and errors ? with books ? Or are you one of those lucky ones whose mother (or father, or aunt or uncle...) can teach you the tricks of the trade ?
